Police and fire departments were notified that a woman was in the ocean near North Washington Street Bridge on Tuesday, Feb. 7 around 9:45 p.m., according to Massachusetts State Police. Fire department swimmers jumped to action, finding the woman and bringing her aboard a state police boat.
The woman was safely recovered with no injuries other than being severely cold. She was given a floatation jacket to help warm her up.
EMS was waiting for the woman at the state police marine dock and transported her to a Boston hospital. She was determined to have entered the water with the intention to die by suicide.
The bridge, located across from the Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit Headquarters, arches over the channel where the Charles River empties into the Boston Inner Harbor.
